Year 6 Prep Pupil Makes his Chess Moves at Masters Tournament
Victory for Patrick at the Hastings Masters Tournament 2023-24.
Lingfield College is proud to share the remarkable achievements of Prep Pupil, Patrick, in the recently concluded Hastings Masters Tournament. Patrick showcased exceptional skill, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the competition in a field of formidable opponents with extensive experience and seniority in the chess arena. Participating in an extraordinary 7 out of 9 games in the tournament, his performance included two wins, two draws, and three losses, highlighting the competitive nature of the event. He now holds an impressive international rating of 1798 and a national rating of 1992.
One of the highlights of Patrick's journey in the tournament was a spectacular victory achieved in just 19 moves against a seasoned veteran from Wales, boasting an international rating of 2035. This thrilling encounter was broadcast live, with insightful commentary from esteemed Grandmasters.
Reflecting on the overall experience, Patrick expressed gratitude for the invaluable lessons and insights gained during the tournament. The challenges he faced against top-tier opponents have undoubtedly contributed to his personal and chess-related growth.
In a significant milestone for Patrick was earning the title of "English Club Master" from the English Chess Federation during the summer of 2023. This prestigious title is awarded to those achieving a national rating of at least 1800 and maintaining it for twelve consecutive months, showcasing Patrick's consistent excellence in the game.
