Prep School Get Creative!

Lingfield Prep art class

Lingfield Prep students have been getting stuck into art and craft this term with a variety of exciting projects led by Head of Art and Design, Mrs Berry.

Reception have embraced and explored the American culture of Thanksgiving and created turkey crowns to wear for lunch!

Year 1 have continued to explore the concept of line. They have taken their lines for a walk to create an instant image using wool and then used a selection of materials to create their own Paul Klee-inspired take-a-line-for-a-walk pictures.

Year 2 have investigated materials that float and sink and found out which are waterproof. We will use this knowledge and research into sailing vessels to design our own boats/rafts, which we will build out of recycled materials.

Year 3 used mailable coloured wire and foraged or found materials to piece together their upcycled stained ‘glass’ mobiles. They then explored language surrounding colour theory, such as opacity, saturation, and complementary and tertiary colours.

Year 4 created vases from their Gelli prints and filled them with collage flowers, building upon their colour theory knowledge of complementary or contrasting colours.

Year 5 entered the art room in darkness and were given an LED candle to light an object. They then used their knowledge of pencils and mark making to sketch the patterns of light and dark emphasised by the candles.

Year 6 have held several mini ‘silent’ galleries to gain inspiration from their classmates. They have then sought out advice and help mastering specific Procreate skills and begun incorporating these in their portraits.
