Media and Psychology Students Take Unforgettable Trip to NYC

At the beginning of half term, 25 sixth form students and staff made an early start to Heathrow for our Biennial Media & Psychology Trip to New York. They spent the first part of the 5-day trip visiting the Rockefeller Centre, Times Square and Top of The Rock to experience a memorable New York Sunset. On day 2, the group explored the High Line, Little Island and then Ellen's Diner. They then journeyed to New Jersey to watch a Woman's Soccer League game between Gotham FC and Orlando Pride. Lingfield students cheered on Gotham FC and were excited to spot England's Jess Carter (27) playing superbly.  The students were also welcomed by the venue on the big screen!

On day 3, Media students spent an amazing morning at the New York Film Academy, learning new skills and getting the opportunity to put their visual storytelling to the test by filming and editing a short narrative sequence with the lecturer there.  Psychology students were welcomed to St Francis College in Brooklyn for a tour and talk about studying psychology in further education. The trip also included some downtime exploring 5th Avenue, Grand Central Station, and then Central Park for a media activity.

Teddy Year 12 "My Highlight of the New York trip was definitely the live football game at the Red Bull arena as there were many goals scored and the Gotham fans were very loud creating a much better atmosphere than I was expecting. Moreover, I found the 9/11 museum very eye-opening as I didn’t fully process the true catastrophic nature of the attack. I enjoyed the hectic nature of Times Square, with the many crowds of people and vendors contributing to the loud and colourful atmosphere where I could see people of many different cultures. This trip also enriched my knowledge of American history which will help me in my subjects, especially history and economics."

Bella Year 12 "I really enjoyed the Halloween fright night in Pennsylvania and visiting Central Park. Times Square showed hundreds of examples of ways media advertised content, so that was interesting to see."

George Year 12 "My biggest highlight was by far the New York Film Institute as It got me to think about filmmaking in a different way than I did before. As a Media Studies student, this is really helpful for my studies, and I can use the things I learnt in my coursework."
