Lingfield College Students Prepare for Silver and Gold DofE
Lingfield College students are preparing to take on the challenges of their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, as they prepare for the challenging programme that promises not only personal growth but also a test of their resilience and skills.
Training expeditions are due to take place at the end of February, the Silver expedition will lead the students across the Isle of Wight, while the Gold expedition will take students to the rugged terrain of the Brecon Beacons.
The students dedicated a day to planning for their training expeditions. The comprehensive training covered essential aspects, ensuring the participants are well-equipped for the challenges that lie ahead. From First Aid techniques to understanding the importance of nutrition in the great outdoors, students engaged in a day of hands-on learning that will undoubtedly serve them well during their expeditions.
One crucial skill covered during the training was map reading, an essential element for navigating the unfamiliar terrain. Students also learned the art of efficient rucksack packing, emphasising the importance of carrying only the essentials for a comfortable journey. Expedition planning was a key focus, preparing students to face various scenarios and make informed decisions during their time.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme has long been recognised for promoting self-reliance, leadership, and teamwork among young individuals. Lingfield College is proud to support its students in taking on these challenges, providing them with an opportunity to develop life skills that extend beyond the classroom.
