Prep School Eco Warriors Win at Hever Castle Sculpture Competition

A huge well done to the Eco Warriors Club at Prep School for winning the Sustainable Sculpture Competition at Hever Castle. Their environmentally conscious entry, a portrayal of King Charles, displayed their creativity and resourceful use of natural materials. 

The competition launched by Hever Castle among local schools challenged pupils to craft a sustainable sculpture with a historical theme. With the guidance of Eco Lead Mrs De-Villiers, the keen Eco-Warriors eagerly embraced the task at hand, resulting in an exceptional entry that stood out among the contenders. 

The sculpture, depicting King Charles, who himself is a committed environmentalist, highlights the Eco Warriors' resourceful use of materials. Crafted from old wooden crates, repurposed fence posts, straw, plants and seeds, the artwork is a testament to the pupils' dedication to eco-conscious practices. The head of the sculpture doubles as a bird box, promoting biodiversity, while the body functions as a bug hotel, adding an interactive and educational element to their creation. 

During the February half-term event, Hever Castle's grounds hosted the display of all the impressive entries, including Lingfield Prep's winning creation. Visitors had the unique opportunity to appreciate the artistry and eco-friendly efforts behind each sculpture. 

Lingfield College Prep has been at the forefront of eco-friendly initiatives, with the young environmental enthusiasts forming the Eco Warriors club. These pupils have been actively promoting sustainable practices within the school community, inspiring their peers and setting an example for others to follow.

In recognition of their commitment, the Prep School was awarded the Green Flag Award ‘with Distinction’ by Eco-Schools in 2022.  As the only School in Surrey with ‘Distinction’, it is a testament to the pupils and staff's hard work and commitment to become more environmentally conscious.

Your passion and creativity have shone through this project. Well done!”
