Prep Goes Global: In A Day Celebrating the Culture and Heritage of the School Community.
Today at Lingfield Prep we celebrated the rich cultural heritage and diversity within our community. Pupils and staff were invited to wear something related to their culture and took part in various activities throughout the day, from around-the-world games to flag matching.
Our pupils had a special visit from one of our parents, Mrs. Ntim, who delivered a thoughtful presentation addressing key aspects of heritage, including clothing, language, music, and food, to provide children with a wider perspective on different cultures and confidence in asking questions related to another’s heritage.
At lunch time, Holroyd Howe Catering Manager Becky set up a fascinating display table of different fruit and veg from around the world. Pupils were invited to touch and smell the herbs and see if they knew the names of some of the fruit and vegetables on display. Lots of pupils knew mango and mint, but they hadn’t seen a physalis fruit or lemongrass before! They found out lots of interesting facts, such as how many seeds are in a pomegranate and whether a tomato is a fruit or vegetable.
The day finished with pupils learning the song Seven Continents.
