Lingfield Prep Accredited as Literacy Tree Flagship School

Lingfield Prep is delighted to be accredited as a Literacy Tree Flagship School.
Literacy Tree is a book-based approach to teaching English. It provides a curriculum that integrates reading, writing, grammar, and spoken language skills using high-quality children's literature.
When the co-founders of Literacy Tree, Lynn and Anthony, visited our school, they were impressed by our pupils' engagement and the quality of teaching across the school and awarded us Flagship School status. As a Flagship School, we have demonstrated an innovative use of the book-based approach and have adopted and adapted planning sequences to complement our own topics and themes.
We were so excited to see all your brilliant teachers delivering such engaging sessions and we loved all the brilliant writing on display and working walls around the school, as well as the children’s books, which looks really great with really clear sequences of lessons.
Literacy Tree
At Lingfield Prep, we aim to foster a love for reading and writing while ensuring children develop advanced literacy skills, achieve high standards and find joy in writing by exploring a variety of meaningful writing purposes. When teaching through a text, we begin with a discovery lesson designed to 'hook' children into a book.
Discovery lessons
Year 4 took part in an archaeological dig for Beowulf.
Year 3 were given a ticket and hot chocolate for The Polar Express.
We look forward to sharing how we use the sequences to support engagement and raise attainment in English with other schools looking to change their own pedagogy and curriculum. We also look forward to hosting schools and working with the Literacy Tree Team as a Flagship School.
