Outstanding Performance by Students at the International Model United Nations Conference in Bilbao
Lingfield students win four 'Best Delegate' awards in the International Model United Nations Conference in Bilbao.
After a very early start on Thursday, 14 Lingfield College students left Gatwick and made their way to Spain for an International Model United Nations Conference in Bilbao. The students had all spent the last few weeks writing position papers and resolutions in anticipation of the event. The conference kicked off with an impressive opening ceremony at Deusto University in Bilbao.
During the course of the weekend, all committees debated 3 different topics. The Youth Committee discussed: A. The question of introducing urban ecology, B. The question of overpopulation, and C. The question of garbage patches as a threat towards marine wildlife.
There were some interesting debates across all committees and Lingfield students were commended for their speaking on amendments and resolutions. The older students represented Germany and the United Kingdom, and the five Year 8 students taking part in the Youth Committee as Ecuador, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany and Greece.
It wasn't all work though! They also enjoyed some downtime with a trip to the Guggenheim museum and a disco on Saturday night.
Congratulations to everyone for taking part. Students took part in 6 committees winning an award in 4:
Matthew in Human Rights - Best Delegate
Simreth in Security Council - Best Delegate
Myles in Commission on Science and Technology for Development - Best Delegate
Aryan in the Youth Committee (competing against year 10 students)- Best Delegate
