Lingfield Welcomes Mims Davies MP to 6th Annual MUN
On Saturday, December 7th, we held our 6th Annual MUN. We were delighted to welcome back schools that have supported this event over the past few years and to extend a warm welcome to those joining us for the very first time.

14 chairs and co-chairs took charge of 7 committees, ensuring productive debate took place and passing resolutions.
The day was filled with spirited discussions, collaboration, and innovative diplomacy. Students came prepared to debate topics on environmental issues such as:
- Managing nuclear waste in United Nations Environment Programme
- Managing Inflation and Stagflation in Post-Pandemic Global Economies in ECOFIN
- The Question of the Crisis in Myanmar, Regarding the 2021 Military Coup and Rohingya Crisis in Security Council
- The Question of Managing Nuclear Waste and Storage by Addressing the Environmental, Security, and Long-term Responsibility Challenges of Radioactive Materials in UNEP (Environmental Programme)
- The Question of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Post-Colonial States in SPECPOL

Keynote Address by Mims Davies MP
We were delighted to welcome Mims Davies, MP for East Grinstead, Uckfield, and the Villages Seat as our Keynote Speaker. Ms. Davies is also Shadow Minister (Women) Department of Education, Shadow Secretary of State for Wales (Wales Office) She gave a thought-provoking and insightful speech to open our conference. Reflecting on her own experiences participating in MUN during her time at Royal Russel School, she shared how these formative years shaped her path into politics.
Ms. Davies spoke passionately about the issues that matter to her, from making a difference to individual families in need, supporting the Ukrainian community, and her efforts in changing legislation around the ivory trade to protect wildlife. She also highlighted her commitment to seeking equality and addressing local, national and international environmental concerns. Her inspiring words resonated with delegates as she drew connections between local and global issues, showing how dedicated individuals can drive meaningful change.
The session concluded with Ms. Davies responding to some challenging questions from the audience, including one about whether she had ever had to go against her personal beliefs for the greater good. Her honest and reflective answers offered valuable insights into the complexities of a life dedicated to public service.

Lingfield MUN club is open to all students from Year 7 - Year 13. Years 7 and 8 have their own club sessions. However, when they become more confident, they are also invited to take part in the upper school MUN club sessions, as well as our own and other external MUN conferences. Find out more.
