Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a challenging programme of activities designed to encourage young people to learn new skills, help others, and experience adventure in the outdoors.

Each level of the Award consists of four sections: Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Expedition. The Gold Award also requires a five-day residential course. Pupils create their own DofE programme by selecting a volunteering, physical and skills activity of their choice before undertaking a final assessed expedition after a training day and practice expedition. Success at each level is dependent on self-discipline, motivation, commitment and teamwork. The Award is highly prestigious and is valued by colleges, universities and employers alike. 

 

 

Volunteering

Volunteering is an essential part of a DofE programme and has a huge impact on young people. 

Between 1st April 2023 and 31 March 2024 Lingfield students notched up a total of 2288 volunteering hours.

Examples of volunteering include:

• Coaching at sports clubs to improve young peoples' football and netball skills
• Helping at Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies
• Litter picking in the community
• Helping at charity shops such as Barnardo's
• Assisting at local animal charities
• Helping at churches

 

DofE team 

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme at Lingfield College is led by Mr Stanton and his dedicated staff, including Mr Casey (Silver) and Mr Gaunt (Bronze). In his previous army career, Mr Stanton spent much time leading adventurous training in the UK and abroad, including mountaineering, skiing and offshore sailing trips. He completed the demanding Joint Service Mountain Leader course (Summer Leaders Course) and particularly enjoys challenging students as they progress through the Award. 

Expedition destinations include the Isle of White, the Brecon Beacons, the South Downs and the Scottish Highlands.
