Year 13 Students Celebrate Exceptional EPQ Results

Students in Year 13 have been celebrating their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) results, with 85% achieving A*-B grades. This outstanding performance reflects their dedication to in-depth research and critical thinking, skills that complement their A Level studies and prepare them for higher education and beyond.

The EPQ encourages students to explore areas of personal interest in a 5,000-word essay. A highlight of the program is the presentation evening, where students showcase their research and respond to questions from peers, staff and parents.

This year's range of topics was diverse, illustrating the students' intellectual curiosity and commitment. Highlights included:

  • Lionel: Investigating the factors behind leading football clubs.
  • Anna: Exploring the validity of Battered Woman Syndrome as a defence within the English and Welsh legal system.
  • Benjamin: Assessing the impact of the Russo-Ukraine War on international relations.
  • Kochi: Designing a scale diagram for a new golf course at Chartham Park to meet DP World Tour standards.
  • Hannah: Comparing media coverage following terrorist attacks in New York and Madrid.
  • Amelie: Evaluating the cognitive benefits of bilingualism in the context of modern education and media.

The students' efforts reflect a commitment to rigorous academic enquiry and real-world relevance. Their projects provided fascinating insights, from exploring emerging technologies like AI and blockchain to tackling societal challenges such as assisted dying, social media's impact, and neurobiology.

Year 13 students have demonstrated that the EPQ is an academic exercise and an opportunity to engage meaningfully with complex issues. Congratulations to all on their remarkable achievements!
