Gold, Silver and Bronze at EG Schools Cross Country
On Sunday, 13th October, we once again competed in the annual East Grinstead and District Schools’ cross country races. Our year 4 runners competed over 1500m course and the year 5&6 competitors running over 2300m. With all the rain we have had this term, the course was very muddy and all of our children demonstrated excellent pacing and determination in their running.
Our year 4 boys were the first to compete, with Jeremiah running very well to finish in third and win a bronze medal. Hector also competed brilliantly to finish in 5th. Next on the course were Clara and Harriet who set the pace from the beginning. Clara ran superbly to lead from start to finish to win the race and Harriet finished in a comfortable second position.
Next to the start line were the U11 boys. Beau was part of the early leading group and ran with determination to finish in 6th place. Our next athlete to finish was Harvey who ran well to take 8th position. A group of Lingfield athletes finished close together with Leo in 21st, Monty in 26th and Noah in 29th all running well. This strong performance meant the team finished in 2nd place overall. With two of the 5 athletes in year 5, it looks promising for next year.
In the final race of the day, the U11 girls team took to what was now a very muddy course. Our first competitor home was Ava who ran with great determination to finish in 12th place. We had very good performances from the remaining runners, who all finished close together with Lucy in 17th, Inky 18th, Isabella 19th and Olivia 21st. The close grouping of scoring resulted in a third-place team finish and we once again had two younger athletes competing which bodes well for the future.
Many congratulations to everyone who took part in the races and represented the school extremely well. Also, thank you to Mrs George, who helped take the U11 team on the day.
U9s - Clara, Harriet, Jeremiah and Hector.
U11s - Beau, Harvey, Leo, Monty, Noah, Ava, Lucy, Inky, Isabella and Olivia.
